In September of 2008, the Minister of Education said that the recruitment and homestay programs operated by various school districts were outside their mandate. The school districts will continue to welcome international students, however, the functions of recruitment and homestay have been privatized.
Canadian International Studies Ltd. (CIS) is the first privatized company of its kind in Newfoundland.
